ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Sydney Burtis, originally from Central Florida, is an international performer, educator, and multidisciplinary artist, based in NYC. Some of Sydney’s credits include The Billy Elliot National Broadway Tour, SYTYCD, Dorrance Dance, The YoungArts Gala at the MET, Max Pollak Group, 54 Below, Rhythm in Motion, and Little Island. Sydney shares her passion for choreography as Artistic Director of “Elements of Sound”, presenting works at Choreographer’s Carnival NYC, Battery Dance Fest, Arts On Site, A.C.E. Awards, and more. Sydney is currently on faculty at Steps on Broadway and Broadway Dance Center, and has guest taught on Adrenaline and Revive Dance Conventions, Dance Masters of America, and DanceMakers Convention and Competition.
Yvonne Huatin Chow | 周化炜 (they/she) is a first-generation Chinese American, queer, neurodivergent artist raised on Ohlone Land and currently based on Mohican & Munsee Lenape territory. Drawing from Hip-Hop/Street Dance and martial arts, their work has been presented at the AAPI Dance Festival at APAP, Step It Up NYC Youth Dance Competition, Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company, and beyond. They are the Founding Artistic Director of House of Chow, a 501(c)(3) dance organization where the wisdom of Asian lineage meets a deep respect for Hip-Hop dance. Their honors include the Original Skillz Crew Worldwide Appreciation Award (2018), the Admerasia Charity Spotlight (2023), and residencies at Culture Lab (2024), Goddard Riverside Community Arts Program (2025–2026), and the NYU Artist Development Program for Dance (2026).
Khushi Dance Academy is a New Jersey–based school dedicated to Bharatanatyam, one of India’s most ancient classical dance forms. Founded by Sonal Jhaveri, the academy offers structured training that blends tradition with a modern, inclusive approach. Students develop technique, rhythm, expression, and a strong foundation in cultural storytelling. The academy actively performs at renowned venues, sharing Indian heritage with diverse, international audiences.
Sally Rousse performs, teaches, choreographs, curates, writes, and advocates dance. A recent Dance MFA Fellow and graduate of Bennington College (Vermont and France), she is a two-time recipient of the McKnight Fellowship for Dancers; a Sage Awardee for “Best Performer;” was named “Artist of the Year” (Minneapolis City Pages) and is the mother of two young adults. Rousse’s site-specific works have taken dance off the traditional stage into venues such as the Kwon Tung Pier in Hong Kong and up the tree of a vacant lot and have also been seen in both theatrical and commercial venues such as the Guthrie, Southern, and State Theaters; the Walker Art Center, MASS MoCA, the Cartoon Channel, and Harvard’s American Repertory Theatre. Each of her site-based productions were each named “Best Performance of the Year” in the Twin Cities.
